MoveProtect information for our Customers

Our standard contract contains full details of our agreement with you, and you should read it thoroughly before signing. We recommend you pay particular attention to the Special Importance Conditions and Acceptance of Quotation.

We make every effort to protect your goods during your removal. However, there is always a possibility that loss or damage could occur and we want you to have complete peace of mind when moving with us.

We can accept liability for loss or damage to your goods under MoveProtect. Full details are shown in the MoveProtect Addendum, which we have provided.

If you do not choose protection under MoveProtect, our liability for loss or damage to your stored goods is limited to £40 per item (as defined under our terms and conditions).

We can accept MoveProtect if you provide a suitable Maximum Replacement Value for your goods. If you opt for MoveProtect, you must declare an appropriate replacement value for all goods (known as the Maximum Replacement Value). This figure must be adequate to include all goods moved and/or stored by us.

Your Maximum Replacement Value must represent the total current cost of replacing all property allowing for age, quality, degree of use and second-hand market value at the time your property is packed or otherwise made ready for removal and/or storage. Additionally, the replacement cost for following items is calculated differently:

  • For any goods which cannot be purchased new (such as antiques or works of art, for example), the replacement value shall be the current market value; and
  • For documents, the replacement value shall be calculated as the physical cost of replacing the documents and/or cost of reprinting, re-issue and/or reconstitution, but excluding the value of the information contained in the documents

The Maximum Replacement Value you provide must be adequate to include all goods submitted for removal and/or storage, at all times. You are responsible for notifying us if the value you declare needs to change at any time.

If the figure you provide is not high enough, our liability shall be proportionately reduced.

This means that any claim you make against our liability under MoveProtect shall be reduced to reflect the proportion that your declared Maximum Replacement Value bears to the actual total replacement value of your goods.

For example: if the total replacement value of your property is £30,000, but you have declared a Maximum Replacement Value of £15,000, our liability will be reduced by 50%. So, if £3,000 worth of your property is lost or damaged, our liability would be £1,500.

There are many benefits offered by MoveProtect, including:

  • If you make a claim against our liability under MoveProtect, your own household or business insurance policy no claims discount or claims experience will not be affected, which will reduce the possibility of large premium increases following a loss.
  • Once you opt-in, MoveProtect is provided up to your Maximum Replacement Value for the duration of your move and any period of storage.
  • If you do not opt for MoveProtect, you will need to ensure any insurance cover you arrange separately is renewed and remains valid.
  • Claims under MoveProtect will be handled by a specialist claims adjuster named RCS on our behalf.
